How to Protect Your Seed Phrase

The single most important responsibility of every wallet owner. Practical rules, plainly written.

If you remember only one thing about crypto wallets, remember this: your Seed Phrase is the master key to everything you own on the blockchain. Your NFTs, your cryptocurrency, your digital collectibles. Everything.

Write It Down on Paper

When you first create your wallet, write your Seed Phrase down immediately. Use paper and pen. Store it somewhere secure — a home safe, a locked drawer, a safety deposit box. Simple often works best.

Create a Backup

Paper can be lost, damaged, burned, or flooded. Consider creating a second handwritten copy and storing it in a separate secure location.

Never Store It Digitally

Do not save your Seed Phrase in notes apps, text messages, screenshots, photo galleries, email, or cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud, OneDrive). Cloud accounts can be compromised. Your Seed Phrase should never depend on internet security.

Never Share It With Anyone

Not friends, family, collectors, support agents, NFT marketplaces, or Mintelier staff. Nobody needs your Seed Phrase to help you. Ever.

Watch Out for Scams

Scammers pretend to be wallet support teams, NFT platforms, or marketplace administrators. They send messages saying "your wallet needs verification" or "please confirm your Seed Phrase". These messages are scams. Some build fake websites that look identical to real ones — the moment you enter your Seed Phrase, the scammer gains access.

Consider a Metal Backup

Some collectors use metal backup plates designed for storing Seed Phrases. Unlike paper, metal can withstand fire, water, and time.

The Golden Rule

If anyone asks for your Seed Phrase, do not give it to them. Not today. Not tomorrow. Not ever.
