What Are Gas Fees?

Why blockchain transactions cost a little, and why those fees rise and fall like rush hour traffic.

Imagine you want to send a valuable painting to a collector. Before the package can be delivered, you must pay a delivery fee. Gas fees work in a very similar way. When you use a blockchain, you pay a small fee to have your transaction processed.

Why Do Gas Fees Exist?

Around the world, thousands of computers work together to process transactions, verify ownership, and keep the blockchain secure. Gas fees help pay for that work.

What Requires a Gas Fee?

Minting, buying, selling, transferring NFTs, sending cryptocurrency, or interacting with blockchain applications. Every time you ask the blockchain to do something, it may require a small fee.

Why Do Gas Fees Change?

Think about rush-hour traffic. When roads are empty, getting somewhere is easy. When roads are crowded, traffic slows. The blockchain works similarly — more activity usually means higher fees.

Who Receives the Gas Fee?

Gas fees do not go to Mintelier. They are paid to the blockchain network that processes and secures the transaction.

A Simple Way to Remember It

The package is your NFT transaction. The courier is the blockchain network. The delivery fee is the gas fee. No fee, no delivery.
